Job Summary
Research and Development of Projects. Projects can be (but are not limited to) new products/technologies, existing products, improvements, validation, sourcing, domestication, customer, quality or manufacturing support.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
It is the responsibility to perform the following duties with limited direct supervision
・Gain knowledge of project and materials
– Communicate with Sales, Customers, Section Manager and/or Technical Director to determine Goals and Timeline for projects.
– Set and understand project performance targets and restrictions.
– Research raw materials for use and design.
– Learn from previous designs, benchmarks, previous successes and failures.
– Learn customer process to ensure compatibility.
– Learn and use APQP system of Sunstar.
– Survey open literature (market reports/news, technical literature, patents, etc.) to keep abreast of new market and technologies in fields of interest.
・Provide ownerships / Support for assigned projects
– Prepare schedule for project with objectives.
– Select raw materials for use (based on Quality, Price, Supply, Chemical regulation such as REACh, etc.).
– Prepare Formulation Designs and Process Design with approval.
– Make materials and perform tests according to requirements.
– Learn to develop new test methods and processing, etc.
– Use problem solving skills to understand root causes of failures.
– Use evaluation skills to judge overall product quality & performance.
– Prepare presentations/reports for project internal and external.
– Prepare quality standard and working instructions for products.
・Support daily operations of R&D department
– Follow internal procedures (cleaning, safety etc.).
– Improvements of laboratory (new equipment, maintenance etc.)
– Raw materials order, storage and disposal.
・Other functions
– Support to assure smooth transition into manufacturing.
– Provide support for QA for customer problem resolutions and/or QC lab.
– Troubleshooting at customer’s sites as required.
– Provide support for batch release.
– Assist sales with reports or customer visits for current business and new business.
– Prepare sample shipments to customers and other sites for testing.
– Must comply with safety and environmental regulations, along with the company’s quality, safety, and environmental policies.
Education & Experience Requirements
✓ Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry or chemical related field or studied similar knowledge, and 3-4 years of R&D laboratory experience or more.
✓ Knowledge or experience in adhesive / sealant development activities an advantage.
✓ Have ability to communicate in German and English.
✓ Have ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
✓ Have good organizational and verbal and written communication skills.
✓ Ability to work with organic and inorganic chemicals using PPE.
✓ Ability to lift up to 25kg when required.
✓ Curious with a flexible mindset and open to new tasks.
✓ Some travel may be required.
✓ Driving license class B.
