Quality Technician I
Job Summary
Responsible for performing quality testing on in-process batches, finished product, raw materials, and/or customer samples in a timely manner. Ensuring that the laboratory meets specified requirements, and for keeping laboratory testing up to date. Performs duties with supervision. Overtime as required by Manager.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and/or test samples of finished products and/or raw materials following approved WI or experimental test parameters.
- Identify problems, issues, and concerns. Notify appropriate personnel and provide suggestions and countermeasures to your direct supervisor.
- Act as first line problem solver for non-standard results. This includes: gathering information from the production floor, lab or other areas; the communication to supervisor and/or quality engineers; carrying out any actions to clarify the situation to aid in the determination of the optimal path forward.
- Ensure equipment and/or instruments are clean and in good working order before and after use. Recognize instrumentation that requires calibration and is in calibration prior to use.
- Support Instrument Validation/Calibration Activities and maintain instrumentation libraries as assigned.
- Clearly documents test results in SEA LIMS portal and/or MS365 applications.
- Support validation of APQP/Development Projects pertaining to new materials, test methodologies and/or instrumentation.
- Identify problems, issues and concerns and effectively communicates in a timely manner to direct supervisor.
- Create product and sample labels per work instructions to ensure proper material identification and hazardous communication (HAZCOM)
- Identifies opportunities continuous improvements. Participates/leads Continuous Improvement projects as assigned.
- Other duties as required to operate a successful, organized Quality Laboratory.
- This position is also required to perform other related duties as assigned by the Quality Lab Manager or Director of Quality.
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment according to the standards to promote good chemical hygiene, avoid cross-contamination, ensure ready-to-use workplaces, eliminate generation of excess waste and prevent to creation of safety hazards.
Education & Experience Requirements
Associates Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related field and up to two years lab experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must demonstrate good technical aptitude, math and reading skills with solid written & verbal communication, and ability to learn operation of complicated laboratory equipment. Must be highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding visual and physical inspection of product. Ability to concentrate and remain alert while working on highly repetitive tasks. Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently with little supervision and ability to operate effectively on a team, contributing positively to team operations and working relationships. Proficient with Microsoft software products
The position requires an individual to stand for extended periods of time, frequently lift up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and frequently push/pull carts up to 1,200 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Safety requirements for this position are safety glasses and steel-toed work boots.
